Its always a shame when people lose their jobs but EA need this, they need to focus less on aquiring every competitior they can afford and making lousy games. They need to put cash into the good stuff like dead space and mass effect, maybe BF3, probably just best to let the franchises they already wrecked like c&c fall by the wayside and die.

I wonder which facilities are going to lose the most jobs? It' just says that they are cutting their "global workforce".

Oh, and OP...you posted just a link without any commentary. That's a no-no. :p

Yes. All good businesses need focus, realistic and obtainable goals, and less bureaucracy.

According to California-based EA, the decision to downsize its staff allocation has been made as part of the company’s ongoing “cost reduction plan,” which is aimed at providing “greater focus on [videogame] titles with higher margin opportunities.”

read: continue making shitty games on the cheap and releasing them too early, keep releasing the same sports games over and over, and pray we can nickle and dime hardcore bioware fans for large sums of money.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

I guarantee that 1,200 of those jobs were people who actually did solid work, whereas the assholes who decide to force devs to churn out all the early releases with piss-poor gameplay... those assholes kept their jobs.

Unless they changed something with the switch... That's a P&N rule.

I think it's good ettiquete to post some commentary with links anywhere.

Venturing off topic here - in terms of informative posts (such as this), commentary isn't really necessary unless you have an agenda. In P&N, everyone has an agenda, and the articles themselves are inherently partisan opinion and simply not meant to be informative. Because of this, in P&N land, basically every post is some sort of flame war waiting to happen.

In the meantime, back to the topic at hand... good for EA, bad for its workers. However if EA does stick to its stated goal last year and actually starts coming out with more quality and less quantity, then it's not all a waste.

EA probably would have been better off axing piss poor management instead of the actual workers. You know.. the guy that decides a useless 45 minute dlc is worth $7. I have a feeling that EA has something to do with Dragon Age not showing actual math on skill\spell descriptions to help consolize the game.

They axed Bullfrog when they where close to finishing Dungeon Keeper 3.. Hopefully they don't mess up Bioware this time.

Maybe they will stop releasing buggy ass sports games 35 times a year and focus on quality.. yeah right.

When will EA file chapter 11?
This company reminds me of Bose in the audio industry.
