You don't see Valve releasing unfinished games to try to meet quarterly profit expectations.
That's because they don't have to release games. They just take a huge cut of everyone else's work, even now (and this is what EA is fighting) what's sold through other channels. Woo hoo, go monopolies!

Are you new to gaming or just stupid? Valve has never released unfinished garbage and they were releasing games long before they released steam. Ever heard of half life?

EA habitually release garbage games.

I would LOVE for it to come to steam because it rocks. I just hope if it comes to steam it will not use any part of Origin that seems totally freaking idiotic. Launch Origin to launch a webpage for my game? umm no? The only thing I can see as a benefit is you can "multitask" because its just a browser you wait to actually launch the game. Personally I'd rather launch the game, alt-tab if i wanted to multitask instead of playing the game.

Valve made their name with great games years ago. Now they release hats, other people's games, and mod remakes.

They released one game, and then they released finished non-garbage (HL2) at the same time as unfinished garbage (Steam). They only had one game before Steam.

Also competition is good, *** Steam for many reasons, and especially **** Steam for their prices, which are, for many people, utterly terrible typically.
Having to wait for sales to get reasonable prices is pretty dumb (and in the UK even sale prices are often more expensive than boxed copies can be bought for).

If Valve wants EA's games on Steam, then Valve should offer it's own games on Origin. It's only fair. There's no reason Valve should have a monopoly on online games distribution.

if bf3 is on steam, it with also use origin. not only will ea not give up its own platform, but precedent has already been set - f1 2010, on steam, requires gfwl. end of story.

This is so stupid. Battlefield 3 doesn't need Origin or Steam. All of the functionality of both services is built right into the game via Battlelog. Requiring either of these to play is just an unnecessary layer of marketing and DRM bullshit that doesn't provide any benefit at all to players.

I hate steam, I uninstalled it, just had GTA4 and Team Fortress on it. Not worth it I hate it, its resource hungry and I dislike it. Why you have to launch a stupid app to play the game, which is why I buy games from the store and not steam.

I sure hope BF3 doesn't make it into steam!! their money hungry people!

D:

resource hungry if you are on a 1 ghz with 512mb of ram

In Origins FAQ there are too many ports to open up to make it work. Not really keen on that idea from a security standpoint. I'd probably never install it because of that.

Yea, Valve has bought out a few dev houses, and half-life might have been their own original idea, but all of their games are made in house and worked on by Valve employees...so who gives a shit where the idea came from?

It's obvious by the rate at which they release games, that they don't pick up everyone that comes along and works on their games, they look for something unique and eventually make it their own.

What I would have done is release Origin as a very basic, lite and tidy little background app to encourage new users to install it, and then later add all the eula and privacy scanning bs. I don't understand why they are jumping the gun since their motto is and has been if you want to play our shit then install our service.

Did I miss something in following the EA/Steam/Origin fight? Last I heard, rumor was that Steam's rule was that any DLC sold for a game that was being sold on Steam had to be available in the Steam store. Game is on sale->DLC must be on sale.

Steam has never tried to take a cut of anything sold through other channels (assuming you mean D2D, GamersGate, Origin, etc). Has it?

Also, that huge cut? Several indies have said that Steam's cut is much smaller than that of a traditional publisher (too lazy to hunt down the link right now).

You can buy Valve games at Origin, although you will still need a Steam account for them.

Im in the UK, their prices are absolutely fine. The sales when they happen are awesome, not just 2% off somerandomgame crap they are absolute steals sometimes. If the boxed copy is cheaper then buy the fecking boxed copy and stop complaining about steam... for those who like the convenience of steam or have the patience to wait for sales its the best place to buy games. Also here we are renowned from having extremely cheap boxed copies if ordered from online, that's not the same everywhere else.

This is not 2004 people, steam has come a long way. You want competition? You want the 10 or so games you buy next year to be tied to 3 or 4 different distribution platforms? Yeah that would be great :\

Steam is here to stay, origin dosent have a hope in hell
