That's the way they made the game?

There's conflicting reports about this, but I believe they have stated origin will need to be running in order to play BF3, even through other digital distribution systems?

Well until i see a link with them stating that im not buying it.

Maybe I remember wrong, quick search on google shows me origin is required through retail, but no word yet on other digital dist. systems. This is old back in august though, might have changed *shrugs*

While the question has been asked, EA has never completely answered whether Battlefield 3 would require Origin in order to play.. until today. According to several messages on Twitter from DICE’s Daniel Matros, Origin will be required in order to play Battlefield 3 - even if the game is bought in retail. And while it hasn't been confirmed or denied, Origin will probably be required no matter where the game is bought..

Omfg awesome news!! I really want BF3 on steam, i dont want to have to use fking origin. Steam starts with windows on my rig anyways so this would be convenient for me.
Launch Steam > Steam Launches Origin > Origin launches your web browser > web browser launches BF3 :D

I'll probably get it on Steam though.

Yup

I still remain hopeful they will at least remove the need for origin for those who buy it on steam :)

Why you have to launch stupid app to play the game,

Someone needs to get that mad Chinese dude w/the big head pic and make him say that, cause I suck at doing that

STEAM, WHY YOU HAVE TO LAUNCH STUPID APP TO PLAY THE GAME?

Oh, and if it comes out on Steam, it's a def buy from me.

Remember the old days when you'd have to go find your save game file to back it up to another drive or burn it? With steam you don't have to do that even in the single player games (i think), all patches are up to date, no screwing around, no scratched CDs or CD checks...I'm a big fan boy of steam.

It would be interesting to see if steam with no preorder bonus could beat origin in sales with all it's preorder bonuses.

Well it's simple for me, I don't buy games that aren't on Steam. As badly as I want to play Starcraft and Diablo 3, they're not on steam so it's just not going to happen. Same if BF3 doesn't come to Steam. *shrug*

You guys forget, the OP is in fact right.

Now granted he must somehow still be using the beta Steam, you know like the 2004 edition. Not sure how he pulled that one off but man, that old original version of Steam SUCKED.

My advice OP, update to the latest Steam client. Its one of the most complete and successful software apps out there today. For a reason.

The days must not be old enough as try backing something up with Origin.

steam is great, I can bounce between my desktop and laptop with cloud saves and never have to deal with a freaking cd in a drive. resource hungry? maybe back when I only had 512mb of ram. but 8gb on my lappy and 8gb on my desktop...i don't even notice.

You are really weird.
What possible reason would you have for not buying SC2/Diablo 3 just because they aren't on Steam?
Wanting an EXTRA layer of DRM on ALL your games is pretty damned insane.

I agree "Nebor" is taking this one step to stupid. I can understand using steam but all of blizzards games are available via battle.net for download and your account saves your games. Cant tell if stupid or just trolling

I prefer to be able to launch all my games from Steam, have them automatically updated, be able to see when my friends are playing them, etc. I thoroughly enjoy the whole Steam experience. For example, I payed $10 to buy Vanguard: Saga of Heroes a couple of weeks ago on Steam. It's free to download on the Sony site.

I'm simply voting with my wallet. Publishers that don't want to deal with Steam won't get my money. I'm kind of like all of those guys that screamed about not buying COD:MW2 because there no dedicated servers.... except I actually stick with my convictions. :D

I sure hope BF3 doesn't make it into steam!! their money hungry people!

Then don't buy it through Steam. Problem solved.

Steam is better than Origin, or that horrible travesty GFWL.

If you want to talk about greed, any of the corporations are far more greedy than Steam. You don't see Valve releasing unfinished games to try to meet quarterly profit expectations.
