E8600 @ 5.0Ghz!?!

5 GHz yeah right. I like to run Prime in one stability test overnight and then OCCT for an hour. I've had setups that passed Prime for 12 Hrs. and then failed OCCT in less than 15 minutes. So I like to run both for validation. Maybe someday I'll start getting my hands on engineering samples, I really should start up my freelance writing career again...

Man, Intel just keeps on burying the Phenom. Heck, at this rate an E stepping is definitely in my future. I'd love to crack 4 GHz in my rig, which I would think would normally be hard to do with 4 DIMMs populated.

overclocking for me started on the lower end and just rose as my income went up as well. 😛

Of course this isn't XS. Here, we have non-extreme overclockers that will see this thread about the E8600 @5GHz and take it as gospel.

I'd say within one month of the chip being available at e-tail, we'll have a number of posts here with people bemoaning their "crappy" or "faulty" chip they want to RMA because it can't do more than 4.2GHz, because "these should be a guaranteed 5GHz." Happens every time a hot new overclocking chip comes out.

True, and it also tends to be well synchronized to the standard calendar breaks kids have from school (summer break, thanksgiving break, christmas break, spring break)...

I'm happy my E8500 (ES) on loan is @ 4.3GHz, though i'm still tweaking to go higher.

When I first got it, I told my bro I booted it at 3.8 and his reply was, "THAT'S IT". Heh, seems he's one of the bemoaners. 😉
