Sorry, I know overclocking Core2's aren't very exciting anymore, but I'm trying to get a little extra life out of my system.

I currently have my system clocked at 3.8 (400x9.5) with a a VCORE of 1.275, which seems to be significantly lower than the numbers I've been coming across.

I've run a few hours of prime95 and so far so good, but should I be able to get away with a setting that low, or should I bump up to 1.28 for safety?

Run OCCT:linpack for an hour, and PRime95 small FFT for 24hr. If they both pass, you're good to go.

I've seen e8400's at 4.2ghz and 1.23-125v before. 3.8 @1.275 seems par for the course tbh.

That seems about right. My older E8400 is running at 3.87Ghz (430x9) at just a slightly higher voltage of 1.30-1.31v

Thanks. I ran prime95 for 12 hours, now I'm running linpacker, but so far the only thing out of the ordinary was Civ V exited without error when loading a level (while running prim95), but it worked when I tried it again, so I think it was just Civ V.

According to CPUID stepping is A, revision EO. Would you recommended bumping up to 1.28?
Well obviously if it's stable no, otherwise yes ;-) But for a E0 stepping 1.275 should be more than enough.

Well, apparently not as stable as I thought. After rebooting to install some random update the computer froze at the starting windows screen, just before the lights showed up. I thought it might be the update, but I upped the vcore a tad anyway.

However, after getting into windows I started getting crashes in Crysis Warhead every few minutes. I lowered the clock back down to 3.6 and the crashes went away :(

Sounds exactly like my E8400. No matter what I do I can't get it stable above 3.6 :(

Oh well. I'll be getting new gear in a few months, but it was always kind of a goal of mine to have it rock solid @ 4. /boohoo

I am at 1.28125 in the bios and my 3.8 oc has been stable for about a year now I guess.
