I normally idle at the upper 20's to low 30's. However, when running a game I reach upwards of 78 degrees (noticed this while playing a new demo from fileplanet last night).

Is this ok? I am using SpeedFan 4.33 to monitor my temps.

What can I do to lower it? Improve air flow? I am already using a minimal amount of cables. I recently purchased a new back fan ( i think its 120mm?).

All settings are at stock; stock heat sink too.

I am thinking of adding a new fan to increase air in-flow. Do you guys think that will help?

Should I look into getting a better cooler for my processor?

I am looking to have this computer for another 3-5 years. If running at these temps is ok for that amount of time, then I shouldn't have anything to worry about.

My case is fairly old as well. I may consider getting a new one if it is in the 100$ or so range, and it will improve my cooling issues.

Those stressed temps seem a little high to me.
If you're gonna keep it awhile, get an aftermarket HSF.
If you're on a budget, get the Xigmatek HDT-S1283.
If you got some cash (& some time to do some lapping), get a Thermalright Ultra Extreme & a good fan.

Look for an updated bios. Your temps may or may not be actually at that level. There's no shortage of E8400 temperature problems.

There's no way E8400 reaches those levels at stock if everything is set up correctly. But I can't really come up with any advice to begin with.
