Probably a cheapie, being 45nm and all. Probably runs much cooler than current 65nm cores. So, they won't need much for standard cooling. I'd count on Aluminum through and through. Maybe some copper for the UBER high end CPU's.

Well think about it. If the processor runs cooler already, why would they put forth the effort to make a new heatsink/fan? Anyone concerned with the heat is going to replace it anyway, even if they did improove it. If anything they would make one that cools the new processor to the same temps as the old ones but is quieter and cheaper.

Being it uses less power and generates les heat, there would be no requirement by Intel to out in a more robust HSF

well jeez, if it's a cooler thats even less effective or cheaper, what is the MOST Effective cooler for socket 775 that money can buy. I've heard "tunic tower" and the round standing all-copper zalman with the sharp blades & fan on the side/inside - cps9700led i think, and thermalright ultra120.

does anyone have a good recommendation for a low-cost cooling solution that is very effective? I already have some artic silver 5 - is there anything better than that as well?

I ordered a Tuniq Tower 120 myself, actually came late last night by the damn UPS guy and was outside my doorstep all night >: (

Anyway the most effective would be the Ultra 120 when Lapped(may need to lap to processor as well), but it costs a lot more. The best price-wise is probably the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. Really just depends on how much you want to overclock it. If you don't plan to at all or don't plan to much, go with the Arctic for around $20.

Edit: ghost recon88 is right, I meant the extreme version, forgot they even had a regular version actually.

Actually the best air cooler is the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. I just got one, and alls I can say is it rocks! Finding them though is a little hard, and when you do, expect to pay $50-60.

I use the ZeroTherm BTF90 which you can usually find under $30, and it's working well for me. Arctic Silver 5 is fine.

you might as well get liquid cooling as it's not much more than the most expensive aircooling. Even a budget liquid cooling system will be as effective as the best air cooling, while performing quieter.

Just remember that the OEM Intel cooler and similar "downdraft" style coolers provide a secondary cooling function -- cooling the northbridge, PWM area and other components near the CPU, as the cooler's airflow is directed down and out in all directions. Most aftermarket coolers do not perform this secondary cooling function, so make sure your MB doesn't need the secondary cooling, or be prepared to provide additional small fans/liquid cooling blocks to the affected areas.

I think that Intel has been cheapening their stock heatsinks. I've heard of E4500s coming with all-aluminum heatsinks instead of the copper-core ones, and just recently a friend got an e2200, and it has the half-height conroe celeron heatsink!
