What's the right CPU for me? I do a lot of web development(PHP/HTML/CSS/Java and soon to be C#/ASP/VB/.NET Family) for class projects and personal projects. I also work on graphics, but nothing intense like photo editing; just simple banners and layouts. I run VMware, but not all the time. CentOS(no GUI) for classwork and Windows Server 2003 are the two VM's that I run from time to time, but never simultaneously. I like to fire up some games when I'm bored but that's really rare and plus my attention span for games is no longer than 30mins per session.

I can get a used (about 7 wks old) Q6600 used/lapped locally for $210 with a stock hsf or order an E8400 online new for around the same price. The Yorkfields are out of my price range and late Feb is too long to wait :p. With no overclocking in mind, which CPU to get?

Sounds like either is a good choice since you don't plan on OCing or anything that requires a lot of processor power, if you want to think of energy saving go with the Wolfdale, no real reason to get a quad core in your situation I believe.
