I read another thread concerning the difference in OEM vs Retail, and it sounds like the only difference is that the warranty length is either extremely short, or non existant. Otherwise the chip is exactly the same. So my question is:

Should I go ahead and buy one of the nicely priced E8400 OEM's for 199 at Newegg, or wait until the retail version is in stock for anywhere between 220 and 240.

I intend on overclocking.

Basically the warranty will be from whoever you purchase it from, not Intel. And if you OC, that voids it anyway, so it doesnt really matter I guess. Also, you were probably going to buy an aftermarket cooler, so you arent missing out on the crappy Celeron HSF that they provide in the retail E8400 box. The egg is sold out, but TD still has them for the same price.

oem: no cooler and cheaper

retail: comes with cooler and a few bucks extra

difference: as an enthusiast, you should already know the answer to your this one, who gives a da*n about the warranty on processors.

they're built to last.
