I was overclocking my e8400. Yesterday it was running fine at 3897 Mhz. Today I rebooted after installing new AV software and I was surprised to see it boot at 3 Ghz. So I went into bios and it still saying my overclock is enabled and fsb is showing 433. Whatever I change it to, its always reporting as 333 in cpu-z. Its almost like my fsb is locked. What can I do?

What mobo are you using? Does it have any software that is loading at startup? some of the mobos have windows based ocing tools that will start up in the systray. Go into msconfig and make sure they are not.

Reset your bios to all normal settings(optimal defaults) then try to OC again once all is good
