How long has it been since you changed to the AS5 ? May want to give it a little time.

If anything, you may have used too much ? Did you follow AS's directions ?

Been a few weeks. I don't think I added too much, it was just the size of a grain of rice. All that came were the 2 OEM tubes.

I removed the old paste with a little bit of rubbing alcohol and a soft paper towel.

yes the cores reading higher than cpu temp is normal. If you are running hotter after applying thermal paste and reseating you hsf then you probably didnt do it as best as possible (maybe too much or too little paste). Perhaps it isnt seated perfectly flat....try again and make sure it is contacted well and that there is no air gap...aka the paste makes a perfect seal between the cpu/hsf.

Alright, the push pin thing is a joke. It feels like the board would break from it.

Maybe I didn't add enough paste?

That's normal. The Shin-Etsu that Intel applies to their stock heatsinks is better than AS5 by a degree or two.

Shit, I shouldn't have replaced it. I was told that the AS5 is better than stock. =/

What's the best possible thermal paste I can get from newegg?

Also, any recommendations for a really good fan?

And it costs less, I feel ripped off I bought 2 AS5's lol.

What I do when I apply the thermal paste is I place it right in the middle at about the size of a grain of rice. Then I set the fan on top and let it spread. Is that fine?
