e8400 core temp discrepancy

I recently set up my e8400, it's OCed to 3.6 ghz but even at stock there's a temp discrepancy.

One of the cores idles at around 55 and the other one at 36. On load, the 55 core goes as high as 65 and the other core around 47.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Not necessarily, but this is usually an indication of improper HS mounting. Thermal paste, hold down pressure, or whatever, are incorrect.

Your temps aren't out of control, but cooler is always better.

I'd try to fix it.

I reinstalled the cou, heatsink, and thermal paste. I don't think I did anythnig wrong but i'm no "expert" and there's still that one core thats showing high temps.

See you were using Realtemp, coretemp for some is not accurate maybe this is too.
My cores are about the same but some people are having problems and have been.
If you are sure everything is installed correctly you may just have to wait a bit until someone figures out whats to blame for all the temp differences....
Or find someone that you can swap CPU's and see what their setup reads.
Are you using the stock cooler? What did the paste look like when you removed it did it look even and spread out?

Nope, I'm using an arctic freezer pro with arctic silver 5 thermal paste. The first time i did it, i put the paste following their directions. I didn't put a lot, it didn't cover the entire heatspreader and when I took off the heatsink it looked like a pear shape I suppose in the center of the processor. However, it did look a little "bumpy"

The second time (as it is now) i put some a dab in the center and spread it throughout the center with something flat, so it's kinda like a rectangular shape covering the center of the heatspreader (i didn't spread it all over the heatspreader). I'm not sure how the paste looks, I didn't remove the heatsink but the temperature readings are pretty much the same.

Are other people having similar problems as me? I haven't been able to find much information, other than the fact that people are having temp reading problems but both their cores exhibit the problem whereas only 1 of mine seem to be problematic, which is making me think there's an actual problem but so far I don't see any performance issues, everything seems to be running perfectly, but it's just that the temp reading is making me a little worried. I don't want it to fail later on and give me problems =\

Sounds like one of your cores has a faulty/stuck heat sensor. Test the heat sensors using realtemp and see what it says.

That and yes, alot of people have had this issue. Yours seems rather extreme however as it is usually within 8-10c at the very most difference between the cores.

So unless the hs on the cpu, or the base of the hsf is off and not even, which might be fixable with lapping, your stuck with this. You cant "fix" a bad sensor.

If you lap the cpu you void your warrenty just so you know.. so make your decision on a RMA or lapping. You wont be able to do both.

I am thinking RMA if you are sure the HS is working or find someone to try ti on their system. Do not lap it RMA it.
