E8400, but with which Mobo?

Basically I'm getting a new rig and need suggestions of which motherboard I should buy.

I've set the rim at:

C2D E8400
Corsair Dominator TWIN2X2048-8500C5D 2GB (Maybe G-Skill PC-8000 2x2GB)
MSI 8800GT (Factory OC)
2xS-ATA drives (+ 1 external 320gb)
1xDVD-RW PATA
4-5 USB's used
FireWire is obligatory (for my external M-Audio 410 soundcard)

The case is an Antec P182B if it matters...

I have no clue either how "easily" the E8400 overclocks, anyone who may share their better experties and experiences, feel free to... But I dont care too much about the overclocking part for now, I don't even think I will tweak it at all for the first few months.

So I'm open for all other product suggestions, just not too expensive!

Thanks
(Btw.. I haven't chosen a psu yet either, it'll help if you guys helped me with selecting one. I've had in mind the Corsair HX520W).

How much do you want to spend?

DFI makes good OCing boards, and the Blood Iron P35 is ~$130

AbIt, Asus, and Gigabyte all make good boards as well. If you don't really want to push to the absolute limit of your CPU, but just go for say 90% of max OC, almost any P35 board should work. It's getting that last 10% that really is hard, and where a good board will help.

Also, the Corsair 520 is a good choice, I have one with my Q6600 @ 3.5 with a 8800GT.

I don't have an e8400, but getting to 3.6 should be easy (400x9)...it seems a decent % of people are getting to (or close to 4Ghz). Dual-cores put less of a load on a motherboard then a quad, so you shouldn't have much trouble overclocking.

Thanks GarfieldtheCat

I'm willing to spend 80-120? (I'm from Europe 🙂) for the Mobo. According to XE.com that should be around 140-210$ But it still doesn't count right, cause i believe computer products are cheaper in the US. But let's say I'm willing to go for the class of GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3P. Now this Mobo is just an example! For comparing the prices.. I have no idea wheather it's a good mobo or not.

Anyhow, back to the case..

As I said, I won't tweak "too much", but if it's easy/goes smoothly without problems, then why not overclock a little? 😛

Do you have any recommendations for Abit, Asus or a Gigabyte Mobo that fits my criteria?

For Abit, the various versions of the IP-35 have a good reputation.

Asus: various versions of the P5K

Gigabyte: Not sure, I can never figure out their naming scheme 🙂

Most likely, any of these mobo's will OC your e8400 well. It seems like most companies have several different models, where the difference is usually the number of SATA ports and extra peripherals (RAID, firewire, etc...). So just pick the model that has all the extra's that you need.

I think I will go for the Abit IP35-Pro Mobo. Now there's only the RAM selection part left... I've been thinking of 2x2gb G-Skills 800mhz. Though they are quite expensive.. 😕

The thing is, the G.Skill 2x2gb 800mhz cost as much as the G.Skill 2x2gb 1000mhz!

This is just what I'm still thinking about (sorry if I ask really stupid questions). The Abit IP35-Pro Mobo says in its specs that Supports Dual channel DDR2 1066/800/667. But no mentioning of 1000mhz. Does it just mean that they support those other mhz but it will still be able to run PC-8000 1000mhz RAMS?

FSB is adjustable. So yes, G. Skill 1000 will run. But with your 8400, there is really nothing to worry about.!!!
