Planning on ordering a new system once DirectCanada has E8400s listed, any feedback until then is appreciated:

CPU: E8400
MB: IP35 Pro or DS4 (likely get the Abit, if it comes back in stock in time)
Cooling: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
RAM: G.Skill F2-6400 4x2GB 5-5-5-15 (Vista 64bits)
Case: Antec P182
HDD: WD SE16 500gb (WD50000aaks)
Case Fan: Scythe S-FLEX 120MM
Video Card: EVGA 8800GT Superclocked
PSU: Corsair VX550W

I'll only be doing light O/C...whatever I can get it at running cool and quiet without having to adjust voltages and such.

The goal of the hard drive is for the O/S, Applications and Games, there's a NAS so space isn't a problem. As such, I'm considering a Raptor WD1500ADFD, but I'm not sure if it's worth the $120. I've been using a first generation 36gb raptor as my primary disk for years (and 36gb has been tight!)

I'm also curious if DDR2-1000 is worth $20 more than DDR2-800...I know 4-4-4-12 isn't worth it.

I've only read a couple posts about 8gb but people seem pretty happy with it, and I figure it's just another $125 (I do a lot of development, and having VS.NET, Eclipse and databases running takes up a chunk of ram anyways).

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Personally, I don't think the expense of the Raptor is justified by the price premium. It doesn't have quite the edge that it used to.

As far as DDR2-1000, you won't notice a difference. I'd buy 4GB and see how your memory usage is. If you're hitting the ceiling on 4GB, then go ahead and buy more. Personally I wouldn't spend the money (and yes, I know it's <$100 for 4GB these days) if I weren't sure I would use it.

Lastly, you don't need 550W for that system. You could save some money and get the 450VX and be fine.
