howdy,
I got my system running last night. E8400, gigabyte x38-DS4,XMS2 2x1gb DDR2-800, Cm690 Case with 7 120mm fans, 8800GT 512 OC. Using a Zalman 9700 LED for the heatsink.
The installation went well for a first time bracket installation for me. I used the stuff that came with the heatsink and used the brush to make a solid but not thick covering on both the heatsink base and processor base. Gently laid it on the bracket and cpu and tightened down the screws. I think during tightening i slide it BARELY to keep it aligned but nothing major. Tightening them down evenly and after tight i went alittle more on both sides for good measure.
It was runningfor a few hours while i was getting windows installed, drivers, and generally messing with things to get it somewhat functional. I tested the temmps with bios and coretemp and this was the finding.
HSF was 1250 RPM
Coretemp read 39-40c on both cores. Both stayed the same.
I run prime for 10 minutes. Tempts on both went and stayed at 46-47c
Last thing i did right after was check bios temp readings, 20c???
I havent really burned the processor in yet. This was just initial testing. However how does it look? This was without any operational fan and the side off aside from the CPU HSF. Tongiht I plan to rewire, since it is a mess, and then put the cover back on and fire up the 7 120mm fans.
This is my first intel build, since the p3 days. My goal is to hit 3.6ghz on the cpu and settle for that for now. I have NEVEr oced either, so all of this is new for me. How long should i run prime? Is there a more efficient way to burn in the cpu?
Any efforts to help is greatly appreciated. I dont want to fubar anything up..
How are the temps? Does it seem i got the HSF on correctly?
