I just got my E8200 and it has Intel Confidential on it. Is this possibly an ES??

Unless things have changed, ES's are multi-locked just as reguler non-extreme CPUs. You can still reduce the multi, also just like regular non-extreme CPUs.

In the old days (P4) all ES's were multiplier unlocked.

Crapshoot really because they can be different steppings that never make it to retail.

Some will OC exceptionally well, or have strange errata not found in retail cpus, some will OC worse or run hotter than their retail counterparts... etc.

no intel does not do this anymore.

The ES all are locked.

And im willing to guess you bought from shintech.

they sell ES's as used sometimes. ES is a luck of the draw, you might get a good one, you might not.
