I've read that on average, the e8400 can hit 4.4ghz, whereas the e7200 usually only hits 3.6ghz. If that's the case, the e8400 is worth the extra $40 IMO.Originally posted by: harpoon84

It doesn't effect things that much. It makes a big difference when we are comparing 1MB vs 4MB, but 3MB vs 6MB is nowhere near as dramatic, its the law of diminishing returns kicking in.
An E8400 is between 5 - 10% faster clock for clock in gaming due to the larger cache, so an E7200 @ 4GHz is roughly equal to a 3.6 - 3.8GHz E8400, which is still pretty fast.
