E7200 overclocked to 3.16Ghz - What stock AMD CPU would match up against it?

What kind of AMD CPU would I have to get so that it's stock speed matches an Intel E7200 2.53Ghz OC'ed to 3.16Ghz (FSB 1066->1333)?

None of the X2s (and probably not X3s either) that's for sure. With Phenom X4's it will depend completely on which app you compare in.

Agreed with jones377, no dual core AMD CPU will touch the E7200 at stock, let alone overclocked. Of course in heavily multi-threaded apps like video encoding a stock quad core Phenom could easily beat an overclocked E7200.

Well I have to break it to you all guys but I have a AMD X2 5000 black edition 2.6 OC`ed to 3.33Ghz....
Not much improvment on the FSB 1000->1150)

Well thats a nice overclock... but what relevance does it have with this thread?

A 6400+ X2 is almost equal with an E7200 at stock speed. Now, you can imagine that at 3.1 ghz there is nothing in the dual core region from AMD that can touch it.

a phenom x3/x4 at around 3ghz would be close in single/dual threaded apps and ahead in anything that can use more than two cores

But then you'd be paying more than you would for the cheap e7200 setup so what's the point? *shrugs*.

True. Honestly, for some I could *definately* see one of the lower watt phenoms paired with a solid board with amd's *very* solid onboard video. That setup would make great sense for a lot of applications.

The thing is, I just don't get why we are comparing a stock amd chip with an overclocked core2? To the OP, could you be more specific as to what applications you are asking about performance in?

I think x2 6500+ . Its basically a x4 phenom with 2 cores disabled.

Here's a review of it KUMA X2

Its AMD's best dual core ever , but still may not be enough to compete with intel dual cores.

Now, I am one that says that right now intel has amd beat in anything but the budget (50 and under) cpu range... but why exactly are you comparing amd stock to intel OC? why not stock to stock, or oc to oc, or performance per dollar with and without oc...

I have one of those,... and I would take my current main rig it is on and match it up against any AMD rig,... ;)

The Phenom X3s are as cheap or cheaper than an E7200, and AMD now has an X3 Black Edition out that is around the price of an E7300. You can also find the Phenom 9600BE for around $120. So basically, he is right:

Lets see, the E7200 costs $120, my X2 5200+ was $59 and OC'd it to 3.1Ghz. The stock E7200 is still probably faster than my X2, but the money I saved went toward my shiny new GTX 260. I game, have excellent framerates -- so I really do not care. I have value nirvana.

But anyway, using SiSoft Sandra Lite my CPU at 3.1Ghz is roughly equivalent to a stock E8200 -- which retails for $165. The E7200 was not listed on the benchmark.

If only the deal was in the past, when he actually bought his rig, and not going on right now, when they are probably sold out. Shucks.

Value nirvana only lasts a short time in the computer world!

Zing! Well, it was great for a day anyway. Guess I should chuck out my system and start over and get a P35 or P45 system with a Core 2 Duo -- but wait, Nehalem is just around the corner...and after that...

Maybe I should be content as my system does all I need it to right now. Keeping up with the latest and greatest just to keep up with everybody else is a waste of money and sheer vanity...not to mention pointless as your rig is outdated as soon as it arrives at your door.

I got the X2 'cause I like my motherboard and didn't want to replace it yet.
