I'm building a new computer and am down to the GPU and CPU. I failed to get in on the $179 deal for the q6600 and now that the e7200 came out and is so cheap i'm wondering if that wouldn't be the better deal. I plan on using the computer for photo editing and gaming. My original intention was to get the q6600 to be future proof but like i said, if i can save 90 bucks or so and the e7200 will last awhile then so be it. Thanks in advance for any input you have. I'm open to other cpu's as well if theres others that might be an even better deal.

Depends on the type of gaming and what games you're interested in, for most games an E2xxx would suffice, more emphasis being on the video card than the cpu.

So your saying even an e2xxx would be a better idea? I plan on upgrading to quad in the future sometime the only reason i'm not just getting the quad is cause i'm pissed i missed it for 179 and now refuse to pay anything more than that for it. Lol. I'll be playing alot of WoW. CoD4, things like that. And like i said. Alot of Photoshop. Thanks again for your input.

you don't need a quad. get the e7200, it will clock higher and run MUCH cooler. You should be able to get 3.5+ on the stock cooler, whereas you're lucky to get over 3.0 on a q6600 stock cooler.

With a good percentage of the threads being "Q6600 v E8400" and "Quad v Dual", it seems like its almost time for a sticky on the benefits of each.

You definitely made the right choice. With the usage you outlined, the quad would do almost nothing for you but generate excess heat.
