E6750 and Ip35-e 3.2ghz barrier that I can't seem to break...

I'm not sure if I got a bad chip or something, but my e6750 just refuses to budge from 3.2ghz. No matter what voltage I pump in (and I've tried all the way up to 1.5v) it won't run stable on Orthos or Prime...in fact sometimes it crashes within a minute.

I have a zalman 9700 heatsink and my temps are always around 50C at max load during the stress tests so it can't be the heat can it?

Could it possibly be my ram that's the limiting factor? I'm using some OCZ gold rev.2 ram that's rated at 4-5-5-5-15 at 2.1v, but I can't even get the comp to run stable at that rating...I need to set timings to 5-5-5-15 to even have it run stable at its stock speeds.

Also even though I set my vdimm voltage to 2.1 in the bios, the ibit software monitor says it's running at 1.9v. And for some strange reason, I can get my comp to run stable at 3.2 ghz OC with 2 gigs of ram, but if I add 2 more (to a total of 4 gigs) it starts popping BSOD and becomes unstable. I know the ram is fine since I've run memtest86 on them and it's not showing errors.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Or have a clue as to what might be the problem so I can see to replacing it or something? Thanks.

Not all 6750's will run over 3.2. Mine, on a gigabyte p35-ds3r will sometimes run at 3.4, but on reboot it tends to go back to 2.66. Look at it this way...at 3.2, your getting a 20% overclock.

POS OCZ RAMs requires about 2.1Vdimm. Manually set timing to 5-5-5-15 and 1:1 memory divider. You may need to bump NB voltage up a notch or two.

I would not exceed 1.48Vcore for an extended period of time.

I have the same cooler with the Q6600 and I believe that 50C during Prime95 torture testing is a great temp. So I don' think temps are your problem.

I'm not too disappointed by the 3.2 ghz overclock, but I am a bit worried that my computer for some reason becomes unstable simply by adding more ram.

I had this exact same problem. I found out that my Northbridge heatsink was not properly attached. I snapped mine back on and it solved the problem.

I'm lucky that my RAM is "almost OK" with four sticks on a 680i motherboard.

If you got comfortable with certain timings and voltages with two sticks, you may have to loosen the timings and raise the voltage a tad when you add another two-stick kit to the mix. See my thread on the memory forum. I'm going to have my own little troubles resolved before dinner today, or bust.
