E6600 Vs FX-62 AM2

Which is better? I know the C2D is a bit cheaper, but I hear they're very comparable. I will not OC, I don't like it. As well, I've always liked the AMDs, but right now I'm running a a64 3200 939. It's time for an upgrade.

Go with the E6600, Each core has access to the full 4mb cache where the FX only allows each core acceess to 1mb of cache

Plus the E6600 is going to draw less power

You're right, they're very comparable. But, if you have the money to buy an FX-60, there shouldn't be any doubt as to which cpu you should buy: the E6700. You'll save a few hundred $$, enough to buy 2GB of DDR2 RAM, and it will outperform an overclocked FX-60.😉

The FX60 is a s939 part.

You either mean th FX62 or the 5200+. Either way I would go with the Intel equivalent at the moment.

E6600 is much better than FX60. But If you already have a s939 system with, you better look after X2 4200+ or X2 4600+. You can use your old stuff and replace the CPU only, spending much less. If you want a new rig, then C2D is the way to go.

I did mean the FX-62, thank you. The benchmarks show Intel is the winner, but AMD has some sort of hold here. Haha, oh well. Since the FX-62 seems to be AMD's top offering now as far as desktop CPUs go, Intel seems to have quite a few choices more. I'll probably go with Intel. Now...Nvidia or ATi? Ha.

I remember E6600 beats FX62 in most benchmarks which was the fastest AMD CPU at the time, no need to mention the price, power consumption and OC ability. Unless you are a AMD fanboy or want to reuse your AMD system (if possible), E6600 is the way to go.

If you are moving from a 939 do not go to an AM2. definately get into the Intel 775, the light is bright for the 775 future, not so great for the AM2

I beg to differ. Intel will be replacing socket 775 for its Nehalem sockets next year while AMD's future AM2+ and AM3 CPUs should still be compatible with socket AM2. That's not to say that I'd recommend going for the FX-62, I'm just saying that AMD's socket seems to have more life left in it (personally, I'd recommend swapping your current CPU for a dual-core one and keeping the same system but I dont think that's what you want to do).
