Well im all confused and undecided, Ive always been an AMD guy but im looking over some benchmarks and reviews and it seems to be that the intel has the leading edge on the E6600,

So whats better the E6600 or the 6000+ and is it worth the extra 100$ to get the E6700 if intel is the way to go?

And is it worth it to upgrade from a 3800+ and 2gb ddr400?

E6600 is better, i would say the 6700 isnt worth the extra cash.

On the matter of whether or not its worth moving from your current setup i would have to say no. Unless your being held back by your current setup theres no need at all. That 3800+ wont be hopeless for general tasks/games for quite some time, of course if you specifically need more power go for it.

I was more under the impression that ddr2 800 and having the dual core would make the difference, with the 3800+ im limited to ddr400 and a single core

That's up to you, since it's your money. I'd personally just overclock that 3800, and see how fast it will run, before replacing it. Also, what software/uses are you going to be using? Oh, and welcome to anandtech.

Thanks for the welcome, I use alot it mostly for multi apps the common stuff, mainly and I do play the odd game, I usually have a bunch of programs open at once hence the 2gb of ram (little overkill yes but it does the trick)

If you plan on upgrading then I'd suggest moving up to c2d. That is what I did when my ddr failed. I decided that if I was going to have to spend money that I was going to spend it on something with an upgrade path. I ran amd cpu's for 12 years before I got the e6400 and I don't regret going back to intel one bit. As for the memory amount 2gb is not overkill in vista. I'd call it a right of passage since vista prefetches stuff into available ram. I started with 2gb and them moved to 4gb although only 3gb is usable at the moment. I'll probably move to 64bit vista after it matures some so I'll be able to use all of it then.

Meh if you have a s939 mobo it might be worth buying a x2 3800 toledo at newegg for like 90 bucks ? You'll be able to multitask just fine, and if you can OC that baby there's really no need to spend all the extra cash on a new mobo, c2d cpu and ddr800. If you got an am2 board it's even cheaper, and am2 still allows you to upgrade later on, so switching to intel would be quite expensive.
