anything more and i'd have to wait for a longer while.

For what? The whole computer?

no not the whole comp.
mobo
cpu
cooling
ram
(hard drive to come after)

You can do a E6300 cpu, 945mobo, and 1gb memory for $350.

stock E6300 will destroy stock 805 in everything. overclocking..6300 will stomp the crap outta the 805 again. Not even a contest, they are not in the same league. The only advantage the 805 has is a super low price, it will be $93 after the price cuts, but it's a space heater, power hungry, and will never match the potential of the E6300.

ok...i'm getting an ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler
i read a review somewhere that got an E6300 from its stock 1.86 to 2.94GHz.
how far will i be able to take it with this cooler and how will it stand up against other processors having higher clock speeds ?

i'm guessing you can take the e6300 to 2.5ghz-2.6ghz easy, so its about equivalent to an X2 3800+ @ 2.7ghz-2.8ghz

(really, 805 doesn't stand a chance)

Ok thank you.
based on price/performance...which of the following would be the most worth getting: E6300, E6400, E6600 ?

Wait till Conroes out, and the other chips get their price cut. Who knows if Conroes will actually be available, and what kind of mark ups retailers are going to give them. You might also want to consider an AMD X2-3800 once the price drops almost in half.

i don't know about the 3800 yet...
i'll have to buy a mobo and a processor anyway to upgrade from my socket a sempron so...
at that price for the 3800...i might as well get a conroe (E6300)...
what u think ?

Wait a week or two, and see what prices and availability actually occur. Then we will see.

well truth is at $178 MSRP...the E6300 might end up costing about ~$210 or so. i also recalculated...my budget is actually only about $250

well said...well decided...
all i need now is to find a good overclocking mobo...with AGP and DDR(2)...

Socket 775, AGP, and overclocking don't really go together. The only real contender is the 865 based Asus P5P800.

Moreover, at a $250 budget, I'd highly suggest waiting until you get a bigger budget.

lol...i'm impatient...lol
i'm running a oc'd sempron for crying out loud
i'm doing a summer job so this is the only real time i'll have some money for some while (i'm a university student)
