E6600 system unstable after bios update

Is it normal for a system to be unstable to overclocking after a bios update?
This seems to be the case with mine. I was running stable at 3500, vcore 1.425.
I updated to the 680i bios version p23 and I only last a few seconds at orthos before the system locks.
Is it generally necessary to let the system burn in a bit after bios upgrade? I had the same problem a couple of days ago but attributed it to a beta bios now i am not so sure.
It is not an orthos failue. It is a complete freeze requiring power off to restart.
System specs in sig.

Often can happen.

It's the reason why people tend to run all different versions of bioses for the same board, since the newest isn't necessarily the best, & what works best for one person may not be the best for the next user.

Crazy, but kinda how things tend to be...

It's really weird. Here's the sequence of events.
I was at version P21, and went to P23beta. The system previously stable at 3600 became unstable at almost any oc.
Reverted to P21 and it was still not stable. I thought perhaps it was my SATA DVD and disconnected it. System became stable at usual overclock settings.
Today I went to the P23 bios and unstable. What I am thinking is that the bios needs a burnin period before it can be sucessfully overclocked. I really don't think my SATA drive had anything to do with it.
I don't think it is a memory issue because the memory is unlinked in bios.
It's all too weird. If anyone has any insights to share I would love to hear them.
