e6600 - need higher fsb voltage?

I've been running this OC for quite a while now, but I've always wanted to make it to 3.2ghz or maybe even 3.4ghz. Before, I tried 3.2ghz, but it was unstable even around 1.395v, so I just dropped it way down and settled to 3.1ghz. Windows worked fine, but orthos would fail in anywhere from 10 minutes to 6 hours.

I'm curious, do you think I'd need more voltage to the fsb/cpu? The mobo voltages are on auto. Or is it just the fact that after 3.1ghz, my e6600 just needs more vcore?

idle is 47C with load of 61C (not quite sure why idle temps are so high . . . ). Load temps with vcore of ~1.395v were about 66C, not too much higher - but not worth the extra voltage (orthos was failing at that speed anyway).

I really want some extra CPU speed because I primarily play TF2. Even with an 8800GT and 3.1ghz Core2, the game lags (1680x1080, Everything on High, shadows on Low, AA=4x, AF=8x). I believe I'm CPU limited as changing AF values doesn't matter. I drop down to 25FPS on dustbowl.

I have the same videocard and processor running at 3ghz...and I've found to boost it up to 3.2+ required a large voltage increase. The tradeoff in terms of heat just wasnt worth it in my opinion.

I recommend you drop the game resolution down one or two notches. Once you start playing, you honestly won't be able to see a difference in visual quality. From my experience, every notch down in resolution gives me a significant FPS boost. At 1280x720, TF2 runs completely maxed out at a rock solid 60FPS.

Just drop the resolution a little and be happy ;)

If you insist on running at that higher resolution, invest in a few more cooling fans for your case, or a better CPU cooler...then you can push the chip harder. You also might want to consider a slight overclock on the 8800GT using Rivatuner. Most 8800's can easily OC 5-10%.
