So the new E6550 is cheap...but how fast is it in real world apps & games ? How good is it without o/c ?

Well I think its a good time to get a new CPU now...but not the case for a Vid card... :(

Anyway I'm just curious about the E6550...if you have this CPU please give some feedback...:)

seeing as how the new e6x50 series is going to be priced the same as the e6x00 series, may as well by the e6x50 one. But there is not much performance difference like 2-3% better

At 2.33ghz it's e6600 like material, which was pretty much in the upper midend echelons, and right now would be around decent mid-end performance, since the e6750 and the e6850 are also priced pretty well, and then theres the 266$ qaudcore ofcourse.

At 2.33ghz I'm pretty sure it won't be limiting you much, if at all in today's games. There will be exeptions, like STALKER which really uses a lot of CPU, but for most other games it will do just fine. I don't know what videocard you have, but if you have like a 7600gt, it will be the videocard holding you back, not the cpu :p

I have my E6600 overclocked to 3.4Ghz. I'm not sure what the overclockability is for the new E6550, but you may get high-end performance out of a mid-end CPU.

From what I remember from my research, the E6550 has a lower multi than the 6600.

Of course it does, its' base fsb clock is 333 Mhz, which means it has a 7x multi.

So even if not o/c...the E6550 is still very good ? What would you say if a non o/c pc is build with it, pair with 2gb ram and a 8600gt (The 8600GTS is kinda expensive) ?

How does it fair against current games at 1280 x 1024 (I own a 19" LCD) ?

Here in Canaduh, the E6550 is very well priced if you can find it in stock anywhere.

I assume it's significantly less than the E6600 in teh US also?

In that case, it's an excellent option.

Might be a tad more challenging to OC, since you need a mobo capable of high FSBs (don't really need that for an E6600), but at stock, hell yeah it's a good CPU comparatively.
