E6420 and odd idle temps

Just installed my E6420 and my temps are pretty crazy. Just idling in Vista, they are jumping from 33-36 to 50's with nothing loading at all. It usually idles in the low 30's, but then when I run Orthos, it gets to high 60's. Could it be a bad seating of my HSF (Cooler Master Eclipse) or just give the AS5 some time to settle in? I had 1-2 random shutdowns as well, but I don't think that was temp related, but overclock (I think ram voltage).

Odd to have that large a temperature variation. I thought my temps varied! I run an E6420 @ 2.67GHz, and I'm around 32C idle, 54C in Orthos with the stock Intel cooler (with AS3 instead of the stock thermal pad).
