e6400 vs e4500

I have an original e6400 and a new e4500. Have to choose one for an HTPC and the other is going into a box for my mom. The e6400 is a known chip, does 3GHz on an IP35-E with stock volts. The e4500 is unknown at the moment.

e4500 I think can take more heat, correct? What's you guys' feeling on which to keep?
 
Keep the e6400, it can probably overclock higher than the e4500. It also has a few extra features wthat the e4500 don't have, which to what amount of significance it is to you depends... The e6400 also has better bonding between the ihs and the actual core which allows for significantly better conductivity. Unless the e4500 actually overclocks higher than 3.6 I don't see any reason to keep that over the e6400. A lot of e6400s can hit 3.6 with around 1.5v more or less.
 
For HTPC, and one for your mom, neither needs to be really power house chips. Depends on what your mom uses her computer for, assuming it's for email etc, I'd give her e4500. It has less L2 cache. e6400 should be fine for your HTPC needs.

e4500 2.20GHz 2MB cache
e6400 2.13GHz 2MB cache

Same cache on these chips, e4500 has slightly higher clockspeed (70MHz) at stock settings.

I opted to give her the e4500 simply because it won't be overclocked (Intel motherboard) and I know how well the e6400 will perform on the right motherboard.
