e6400 temps

I have a e6400, not overclocking all, with a gigabyte ds3 board. Using the stock intel heatsink+fan. I am a bit worried about my temps but i'm confused as to what's the difference between "idle" or "load" temps. Can someone explain the difference?

Right now, windows is loaded up but there are no programs running and Core temp is reporting readings ~50 C. The Intel TAT tool is also reporting temps ~50C. Is this too high?

That's probably pretty close to actual temps. Likely your ambient room temp is playing a very big role in the temp of your cpu (mine does). Also the stock HSF isn't known to be a really beefy unit.

I have the same setup with the stock fan, and my idle temps are in the mid 50's. Seems really high and this also troubles me....However when I run orthos it will only go up to low 60's so it seems okay. From what ive heard these chips can handle this temp but i wish mine was cooler....maybe i should just by a better HSF??

here's a dumb question but its been bugging me: I have a coolermaster centurion case CAC-T05...and i dont know where to place the little COre 2 Duo sticker!!!! Ive had it for a day now and still cant figure out where it should go??? any ideas??? hahahahhaha

First in proper perspective, the ambient room temperature contributes to the internal case temps. My ambient temps here run 21C/28C.
Your idle temps are what your CPU and mobo happen to be without anything happening on your computer. My idle temps are 32C/38C
Load temps are usually higher because of working processes on computer. My load temps are 38C/45C. The room temp has a lot to do with the inside temperatures of any computer.
The higher usage/loads will increase the temps. Naturally if you have an A/C, the rig will run cooler. One important note. Blow out any dust bunnies, contributors to overheating.

Delta is what matters most. If your computer has a delta (change from idle to load) of more than 20 degrees you have a poorly seated heatsink or concave Internal Heatsink on your Processor. Temperatures of the CPU that you view in Speedfan, Asus Probe are what the processor is rated to 60.1 degrees. Core temps in the 70's to 80's although bad for longevity are not going to destroy your processor.

do you guys know where i can download Intel TAT?

Using Core temp 0.93v, I get 27-29*C at idle with E6400 2133mhz, DS3 (bios F7) and Big Typhoon at 1300rpm with Arctic Silver 3.

Sounds like the stock intel cooler is very inefficient.
