What should I use to monitor the temps - right now I am using the asus tool that came with the MB - reads the same as the BIOS

at stock speeds with stock votlages my idle cpu temp is ~ 48 and the motherboard temp is ~ 43 - while ambient room temp right next to the pc is ~ 27-29

I was hoping to get a decent overclock - but I need to get the temps under control 1st

the fans are all on full speed (fan-control turned off via the bios). I have a passive xfx-7950gt video card - but a 120mm case fan (mounted on the side cover) is blowing on it- corsair 520 psu, 120mm front and rear fan.

Other than trying to reclean & reseat the cpu cooler (which was applied w/ arctic silver following the directions on their site - 1 strip down the center of the cpu) - any thing else I should be trying to lower the temps.

Cables are somewhat cleaned up - so shouldn't be a big problem

Try using SpeedFan and CoreTemp to see what kinda results you get as my Celeron D 347 D0 idles at 37C, and loads to 42C.

Your cooler isn't much better than stock, & considering your ambient temps, everything looks normal.

Are you sure? Looks quite good to me at the LOAD temps with this cooler is equal to what the Intel stock one gets idling.

A 15 degree drop at load is fairly impressive.

Looks quite good there as well as it's comparable to the Thermaltake Big Typhoon.

I'll check out speed fan and core temp - and run orthos - report back this evening - gotta go to work now.

Thanks for your input.

I think Freezer pro 7 should be about 10-15 lower than stock at load. Check temp idle+load with TAT that's accurate. If load still is this high with TAT, you need to reseat that freezer pro 7. Installation problem for sure.

here are my updated numbers - ambient temp ~25-26. At idle - core temp says 31 - speed fan says 46. After 5 minutes of tat core temp says 47 speed fan says 60, and tat says 46

couple of questions - using core temp - the Tjunction is always @ 85 - is that a set value?

also using speedfan -an auxillary temp is reading 120-125 - regardless of idle or running tat - is that an acutal reading or is that a dummy number?

attached are 3 links - one at startup, one after 10 minutes of idle, and one after 5 minutes of tat.

keep in mind I AM NOT OVERCLOCKING YET this is all at STOCK SPEED AND VOLTAGE. - so it appears to suck pretty badly.

startup

idle

5 min. of tat

consider this, tat loads the cpu more than even orthos, which is what most cpu's will see load as, drop 2-3c roughly off of the temps, on tat, and thats what you'll see on a normal load basis...at least thats what i get.

So it seems all 3 programs conform, just use the Core 0/Core 1 Data for SpeedFan, CoreTemp as well as Intel Thermal Analysis Tool.

The CPU figure just seems wacky. Core 2 Temps are for some reason strangely high at times, but they run just fine while sipping low amounts of power.

so I understand that the Tjunction number in core temp is fixed based on the CPU, but can anyone tell me what the Aux number in Speedfan is measuring or should I be concerned - 120 C is blazing hot.

Your running a little hot I am same case and cooler as you and clocked alot higher with about 10c less temp than you. I would question the mounting of the freezer7 first. Make sure clips are right and fan is facing the rear exhaust fan. Make sure the fan on freezer 7 is blowing towards the rear exhaust and the rear exhaust is indeed exhausting and not blowing inwards.

I really hope it helps.
