Well, I have been blasting air right at my chipset, lowered temperatures by at least 15 degrees. I still can't get my overclock to the requisite 400FSB everyone is getting.

Maybe I got a faulty board with a lame 965 chipset?

I have loosened the timings when I have been overclocking. I first loosened them to 5-5-5-15 and then it loosnened them to 5-8-8-18 with a 2.3v memory voltage. Still can't get past the 380FSB wall.

This is frustrating. I dont know why it isn't working out for me..

Currently, I have been able to overclock my system at 400x8 at a 1:1 operation after using EASYTUNE5. However, I can't seem to perm it on BIOS. Anyone know the problem?

Orthos, seems to be running stable at the moment.

Well, I know a lot of people are getting that meory up higher, but maybe yours won't go that high. Did you try +.5 vdimm , +.2 on the chipset ?

Try setting 401 or 402. Some people have problems from 380-400 on the p5b. Maybe works the same on the DS3 (only a guess). For 400 on E6400 my stats are +.1 on all the voltages. Auto 1.35 vcore. 2.2 on ram.

Heh, I don't have my motherboard yet (will probably be an S3 though), I've still to order a lot of parts; I just ordered the memory quick for fear it would go out of stock (which it did ahahaha take that everyone else). I meant perhaps you didn't have a particularly good overclocker of a CPU. I'm pretty much out of ideas right now.

You know what I find the most frustrating about my overclocking efforts....When I run the memory multipler at 2.5 for a 4FSB:5DRAMM operation, my system runs fine. However, when I try to run the same 400FSB at a 1FSB:1RAM operation, it fails to boot up.

Why is this?

Agh, too many threads! ;)

So you mean you can get 400Mhz FSB with 500Mhz RAM, but not 400Mhz FSB with 400Mhz RAM, right? This would show it's not your RAM that's keeping it back, it must be something else, I'd say.

ya, definitely. im starting to suspect the cpu itself..

does anyone know any bad week, batch numbers for the e6400? I have a week L625 with batch # A325.

It appears that my system, can reach 3200mhz OC on every divider but the 1:1.....does this have anything to do with some sort of on-die memory controller on the cpu?

BIOS issue with D9 memory is the only possibility I can imagine.

Should I install an older F5 BIOS for the S3 motherboard and try it again?

no, there was a beta BIOS for the DS3 that was supposed to help, but some people didn't have any benefit from using it. Not too sure if the S3 had this either.

oh, so i should just leave the bios at its current version?

someone mentioned that a 1066 memory strap may be limiting my OC. However, I don't know what that is all about. DOes it affect S3 motherboards with e6400 and d9 memory?

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just changed my FSB from 383mhz FSB (1:1) to 425mhz FSB and it booted up on the first time!!!!!! Absolutely amazing. Now I have an overclocked e6400 @ 3.4ghz with stable temps and 5-5-5-15 timings.

Does anyone have a guide in lowering these timings or do I have to just lower them one timing at a time? (ie/ 5-5-5-15 --> 4-5-5-15 --> 4-4-5-15, etc)?

Perhaps you should just trial and error it; go for 5-5-5-12 and then 4-4-4-12, see what happens?

Depends how good your RAM can handle higher voltages.......I got my 6300 OC'd to 3.0, with RAM @ 4-5-4-15 (stock timings) and vDIMM +0.2.

If yours can handle the volts you may get lucky bringing the timings down.

So what would be the best choice for that 10th anniv. ram then?
I'm picking some up but havn't got cpu/mobo yet..
