At stock speeds, an E6400 would perform similarly to or slightly better than an FX-60. However, with some overclocking (even a conservative OC to 2.6-3 GHz), the E6400 would pull way ahead of an FX-60.

That's what I wanted to know.
Still stuck with s939 but I think c2d is the way to go.
What mobo would you recommend for the 6400 w/o breaking my bank account?
Thanks

My friend has the Asus P5B P965 mobo and it easily produces a 2.8 GHz overclock on his E6300 with very little fine-tuning. I spent 20 minutes tuning it after a LAN and managed to get 2.8 GHz stable even with his DDR2-675 and the BIOS's lack of divider options for slower RAM. I'm sure it could do over 3 GHz with some more adjustments to the OC options. I would recommend the P5B if you're on a budget. For more serious overclocking, though, you are going to want an nVidia 680i based motherboard, such as the eVGA 680i or Asus P5N32.

I've joined the forum today although I've been reading for a couple weeks. I'm about to upgrade my system. this e6400 looks like a terrific deal. Is there a catch?
