Like the title says. I plan to upgrade my computer in the next few weeks and i need a good MB and memory. I want the option to use SLI and I want it to overclock well.

I use my comp for mainly playing games.

ok let me rephrase my question.

Are the new 680i or 650i MBs going to be a huge improvement over a p965 board and if so how? I have read many problems with these boards and i dont really want a MB i have to constantly mess with and fix once i have it setup how i like it.

If you want SLi your options are limited, basically, to an nForce 680i or 650i motherboard. These motherboards don't require the performance memory that the P965 does to overclock because you can run the RAM asynchronously with the FSB. Read the 680i and 650i motherboard threads in the motherboards forum, and search the CPU/OC forum for 680i :).

what is your current rig? for gaming, depending on what you have you may be better off with a cheap skt939 4000diego and a 8800gtx....instead of a c2d setup, again depending on what you have. remember, current games are for the most part gpu limited afte ~a a64 3500...

dual core it anyway...I would never ever ever tell someone to buy a single core when you can buy a Opteron 165 for so cheap (if you're going socket 939). If you're building new there's nothing I can recommend more than C2D. There's more to life than Games, and even then...many current and future releases will make use of multiple cores.

i have a skt 939 3200+ with a 6600gt. I have promised i would sell it to my brother for $550, since it does everything he wants and needs and then some.

I really wanted to go with a dual core processor and overclock it since i heard so many good reviews. I know i need a new video card badly, but the 8800's are out of my price range and i would rather wait till vista hits to upgrade too much in that area. I was thinking an E6300 or E6400, on a good MB, with 2 gig of ram, and a 7950gt. I really would like a MOBO that does SLI since if the prices on the 7950gt's drops in the next few months i could just pickup a second one and increase my video performance that way or i could wait and see whats new and available come late winter or early spring. Basically it gives me options without having to replace the entire system again in 6 months or less if Dual Core really pays off.

Or you could get an X1950Pro now, which will gobble up modern games at 1280*1024, and then get an 8800GTS when you've saved up and it's lower in price.
