It looks like some sort of thermal paste-stuff is already applied, but is that good to go with?

I'm not sure if I should remove it and use something 'better'...
 
Are you planning to OC at all? If you are, it would probably help to use something beter like AS5; If not, or only a small OC, then I can't see why it wouldn't be Ok with the stock stuff.
 
OK, but I didn't notice what was used for cooling in the X-Bit article so I kinda thought the stock cooler was it.

My 733Mhz PIII needs replacing NOW, so even if I start out with stock I have to get assembling soon...
