Hello,

This is the spec of my computer:
Intel E5400 | MSI G31TM-P21 MOBO 775 socket | 2 gigs ddr2 ram 800 | ATI HD 4550 | 500 gigs hdd | 2 X 21.5 Dell 1080P HDMI ST2110 Monitors

I recently bought a 9800 GT 512 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...D=3332167&SID=

My current system is running stock (2.7 ghz). I was thinking of adding 2 more gigs of ram and then clocking up my computer. What is the safest way to to overclock it up to 3.0-3.3ish? I heard all you need is to change the FSB? My current computer idle temps around 38-40 degree C., if i overclock it how much of a temp increase would it be on a stock HSF?

One last question. When my computer idles i see it idling at 1200mhz with 200 fsb X 6 multiplier. Is that normal for this kind of processor to down itself like that?

Thanks for your answers

Yes, you should be able to get 3.3 just by increasing the FSB a little bit.

It's normal for it to clock down, that's SpeedStep/EIST and C1E support at work.

I don't think your MSI G31TM-P21 MOBO would like to OC the CPU. That's incredibly crappy and cheap board. You might succeed but i doubt it will be stable...

Who knows, the newegg product description mentions 1600 FSB with an OC.

As long as the BIOS permits it, you can get a small OC, if not more, and if the BIOS sucks, there's always the BSEL mod to try.

drop your ram multiplier and up the fsb. that's all i did with my e5400 and gigabyte g33m. i didn't have to bump the voltage up a notch until i hit 3.6ghz.
