Hi anandtech users. Was looking to upgrade my 6 core xeon over to a 10 or 12 core. Of course the 10 cores run at 3 ghz instead of the 12 which is 2.7. How much faster are the two extra cores, and is it really worth paying more for the extra cores? I do rendering thriugh vray, and use the adobe suite as well. With some nuke work as well.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, looks like its the 2690! Just another follow up question... would my motherboard support the upgrade from the 1650v2 or is this something id have to verify with the vendor (HP)? Secondly would a 150w cpu work fine from a 130w cpu?

Do a value analysis: cores * frequency / price (higher is better).

With Turbo Boost, Intel Xeon E5-2690 v2 reaches 3.3 GHz with all cores active, and 3.6 GHz with one core active. 2697 reaches 3.0 GHz with all cores active, and 3.5 GHz with one core active. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Xeon_microprocessors#Xeon_E5-26xx_v2_.28dual-processor.29

Check product page of your computer on vendor's website for CPU support, like the following: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02504601
