Since the upgrade of my main system is complete and I had all these old parts I decided to get a E4500 system going on and AGP - DDR compatible MB. Here are the parts:
E4500 C2D boxed (has Intel copper core HSF from my E6750) stock voltage
Gigabyte 8I865GME-775-RH MB
2GB Patriot PC3200 DDR (3-3-3-8)
ATI 800XT AIW AGP
Fortron 450W PS
74GB Raptor
DVD burner
Put together and installed XP home and all updates with no problem.
Had minor problem with ATI drivers needing .NET 2.0.
The MB kep asking if I wanted to set it to 1066Mhz for improved performance so I
go ahead and press Y. It reboots and POST say 2.93 Ghz and I think cool until POST
finishes and it reboots. Then it posts and reboots and so on.....
Had to clear the bios to boot up at 2.2Ghz. While 2.93Ghz would be nice, so far its no go.
This MB does not seem to have many tweakable settings. Is there a secret menu like other
Gigabyte boards? I have the FSB at 220x11 right now and running Orthos ~30min, cores at 52C.
Anyone else try this MB?
