Hey. I'm building a system with an E4400. Everything went together alright, but when I looked at the BIOS temperature sensor, it was reading it as idling at around 70 C. I shut down the computer, and when I put my hand close to the CPU, it definitely felt too hot. I reapplied the stock heat sink and fan, but to no avail. The system still idled at 70 C.
After looking through the BIOS to try to find some reason for why it might be running so hot, I found that the VCore was set to 1.325 V. This was the automatic setting done by the motherboard, and I haven't OC'ed it at all. According to the Intel spec sheet (http://processorfinder.intel.c...ails.aspx?sSpec=SLA3F), the acceptable voltage range is 1.162-1.312 V. Since the VCore was listed as being outside that range, I dropped it down to 1.225V. The computer posts, but still runs at 60 C. It doesn't have an OS on it yet, as I will be able to get a free and legal version of XP in a week or two.
Questions:
1) What can I do to lower the heat? I'm using the stock HSF, which I figured would be OK, since I'm not overclocking.
2) What should the CPU voltage be set to? Should I put it back up to the default level of 1.325, or should I use something lower?
Detailed Specs:
E4400 @ 2.0GHz
Gigabyte 965P-DS3 Motherboard
EVGA 7600 GT
2 GB WINTEC DDR2 667 RAM
Thermaltake Purepower 500W PSU
