Hi all - ive recently taken the plunge and bought a 4300 when i read about the great potential for overclocking.

I also bought a gigabyte 965p ds3 board - as these also had good reviews.

ive completed the system with 2x1GB OCZ ddr2 6400.

ive followed all of the advice i can find throughout this forum, and no matter what i do, when the fsb is 210 its fine, but at 215 the machine fails to even POST.

ive set the multiplier at 9 - and the memory timer is set as 2.0 - ie 1:1 ratio - well within its limit (only just over half).

The ram isnt the problem - as under normal config ive veified it running at its rated 400mhz (from cpuz).

i just cant seem to get the processor fsb higher than 210. i have tried increasing the vcore a little - but didnt think it would be necessary at such low fsb increases. i suspect something else is causing it.

i have a brand new hiper 530watt psu, and an x1950 xt in the system.

i assume the board is a revision 2.0 - as i only bought it 2 days ago - and its running bios f10.

is there something im missing?

tia for any suggestions.

The power supply seems to be a likely issue. If you can, test your OC with high quality PSU (Seasonic, Silverstone, Enermax, PCP&C, etc).

I don't know anything about Hiper PSUs.

might sound crazy but did u try to set fsb to 300 or 5 less or more, and memory 1:1 and see what happens? use memory latency of 5 to start.

Be sure and set the PCI-E speed to 100 and not auto. This is what set my Gigabyte board free.

1) Make sure that your PCIe bus is set to 100MHz.
2) How much voltage is the memory getting and what is it rated to run at?

hi all - thanks for ino so far. Here is a link to the psu i have - i think they are ok -

http://www.hipergroup.com/English/products/hpu-4k530.html

i have tried increasing the fsb while reducing the multiplier - this made no difference. I have also trid seting the pcie to 100mhz.

i dont think its the ram - as im not even trying to run it near its limit - it should be able to take 400mhz - im only giving to 215!

is there anyway the board is auto picking the ram multiplier (even though i am setting it manually). As this would mean the ram is running at 430 (effectively 860) and maybe too much for it?

ill have some more tests and let you know how i get on - thanks again.

I found that setting FSB : +0.1v and MCH: +0.1v were keys to allow me to overclock on this board and E4300

guys,

thanks so much for the info. That link was excellent. Also, zigner - your info on the +0.1v did the trick - im now very happy running 9*300 = 2.7Ghz - and memory at 400mhz.

I did try 400 * 7 - but the mobo automatically disables the manual setting of 400 - maybe thats a little to high - even though the multiplier is lower.

Think ill fit a fan to the chipset though - it feels a bit warm!

Well chuffed. CPU temp is at about 43 at the mo from TAT.

thanks again guys - i can now enjoy the system without thinking id bougt a lemon!!!!

Cheers
