E3 Gaming Rigs?

God's Computers:

Conroe
G80's SLI (maybe even QSLI) and R600's Xfire
DDR2 2-4 Gigs
DFI's and Asus's and Abits and MSI's, etc.

You know, the best of the best.

Not sure.

But I think I've read somewhere that Crytek ran their future game, Crysis, on current generation hardware, and they "foced" DX 10 visual effects to run under Windows XP. But don't quote me on this. I'm not 100% certain.

Anyhow ... I doubt any of the devs at E3 ran anything on any "future" hardware.

Maybe they do, but only at their own development studios/houses.

Crytek used X1900XTX in crossfire to show off Crysis.

I saw quite a number of Dell rigs in the Windows Gaming section, and also a few Alienwares lying around for other companies (of course, now the two are of the same company). Beyond that, everything is kept behind covers, so I doubt anyone other than actual exhibitors would know.

Wouldnt it be funny if they all actually ran pre-recorded video's using Intel integrated graphics?

I would imagine that they are running pretty decent gear. However, most of them were probably also showing off their games on large plasmas and LCD's that aren't very high rez compared to a PC monitor. This was certainly the case when I checked out a pre-release CrossFire demo. They had dual X850XTs running a 40-somthing inch plasma with a resolution close to 1024x768. Nothing wrong what that since a nice big screen is useful for showing stuff off at a convention, but something to keep in mind when thinking about performance.

i believe crisis was run on a dual core pentium extreme edition (or something) and crossfire X1900XTX's so crysis should be fairly decent on my rig hopefully, 2 7800GTs are about the same as an X1900 XTX so little reduction in res should be good.

does crysis have a release date range yet? Everyone's so fired up about it, but if it's anything like FarCry (demoed in 2000, released in 2004) it won't be out for quite a while...

I've heard late this year or early next year. I'm really looking forward to it!

I'm not sure I follow your logic here... A X1900XTX Crossfire rig smokes a 7800GT SLI rig, plus it's already been mentioned that Crysis didn't even play that great on the rig Crytek had set up. I hope this game does play well on anything currently out there, but I doubt that will be the case. We're talking about a title that is supposed to be released in 2007, and you're expecting to play it on a video card that came out in 2005... That would be like playing FarCry on a GeForce3 series card.

i thought crossfire was only in X1900XT? well my bad...guess you learn something new everyday!

and im willing to bet that they were using current gen hardware.

Yeha, but you could run it on one 1900 series card at what res? I have to imagine it's more intensive than Oblivion and you need a 1900xt or higher to run that at full detail at 1440X900. If we're talking just being able to run it at basic settings, I'm sure a 1900 will be fine. For full detail I'm going to guess the G80's will be severely strained unless they're a massive improvement.

Next year. Needs Vista to run I think.
