So, before you call me crazy read first.

I starte small business in architecture so my q6600 + 8800 gt ( best pc ever valuewise btw) became a autocad 2009 lt machine in the office.

But its christmas and i want to play with shiny new toys anyway.

I've bought (4min ago) one HD6950 and a samsung xl2370 and i will using them my htpc e2200 while i wait for sandy to come in a few weeks.

Am i crazy?

just thought it could be fun to run some tests and see the botlenecking work"............at least i am almost sure that nobody tried it before.....

UPDATE:

so, civ V is runing fine at 20 fps average but the load times are a pain, i can go for a walk everytime i click "next turn"......

COD black ops is a no go, no matter the resolution the cpu cant keep up and it jumps frames.......

waiting for sandy......

Kind of, lol, 🙂
But its a good kind of crazy right !
Is this a dell ?
I have a dell 530 as my htpc. It has the e4500, which is a bigger brother to your cpu. 2.2ghz with more cache.
I can't o/c either.
I just popped a new psu and a 4770 in mine for better IQ, movie playing. My 8600gt, that kicked ass, at that task , blew up a year ago, and I was struggling by with a hd 2400 256mb.

Anyways, can't o/cthe cpu obviously. I can o/c the 4770 to 900mhz, where with my i5 750 used to give near 4870 performance.
With the slow dual core, even moving the mouse, takes precious cpu cycles, which drops the gpu load. Which drops frame rate.
I'm thinking the slower ddr2 533mhz ram ,does not help.
But if you tune your o/s, background processes, some games will play 'ok'
Let us know. I ran re5 benchmark and Heaven etc

no, i've built it with some spare parts 2 years ago, at the moment it has a 4770 and 2gb ddr2 566. i do overclock but the mobo is very limited p5gc mx......, how do ibenchmark games as Cod black ops or bad company 2 to give you some feedback?

If you're upgrading then buying now makes sense. It doesn't look like the prices are going to drop any time soon.
Also if you do benchmarks now and when you get your SB setup you can hopefully post up some nice comparisons for us (minimum FPS very much appreciated).

i bought it for a very good price tax free on pixmania pro for 220 eur so price drops are far far away"............

how do i benchmark min fps? sorry th nooby question....

If you use FRAPS for recording your FPS it should give you minimums.
Some games will also show minimums when using built in benchmarks, but I don't think CoD or BFBC2 will.

Yes, if you had a few weeks you should have waited for the gtx560, you might see some price drops.

Well, if he waited a few weeks, and assuming the GTX 560 causes AMD pricing pressure which we do not know for sure, then he should wait a few more weeks after that to see AMD's pricing response, and since he is already waiting a month or so, why not wait a few more weeks to see if Nvidia counters with any of its pricing......

My only point is that with the speed of the graphics card markets, sometimes you just have to say "self, today I am ordering in a graphics card" and go for it.

Besides, get a decent card like the 570,580, 6950,6970, you can certainly use them for a couple of years. Given you can use these cards for at least two years, that $30 price difference here or there starts to be less meaningful.
