Thinking about getting an e2160 to make an htpc and was curious about the temps on this cpu. I plan on OCing mildly so I was curious how far you can go on default vcore and what kind of temps people are getting. Please include ambient temp as well if possible. Thanks.

My E2180 went to 2.9ghz on stock volts. After that, it required 0.04 extra vcore per each 90 - 100mhz additional core speed -- very linear -- until it wanted 0.06 extra to go from 3.3 to 3.4ghz, when I decided that was enough. Happily running @ 3.25ghz 24/7 on 1.465v. With my Tuniq, a 21c ambient room temp, 4 case fans, good cable mgmt and an all aluminum case, idle temps are 24c and Orthos Blend temps are 58c.

3.2 ghz +/- 200mhz is the typical max core speed for most of these E2XXX chips before load temps & volts get too high. If I had to do it all again, I'd probably pick the E2160 given its consistently high OCs with less vcore than my E2180. But I'm splitting hairs here either way.

Thanks for the info. A solid 2.9Ghz would be fine for me, especially with 24 degrees as idle temp. Surprised that it jumps 34 degrees during load as I would have thought the Tuniq would keep it lower.

I've got a pair of E2140s @ 3.2Ghz, 1.425v (BIOS) vcore. They run up to 85C core temps at load (Prime95 small FFTs). That's with a HyperTX2 cooler.

The e2100 series, from what I've read, not only has a concave spreader, but the spreader is not soldered, which creates more heat build up.

its probably so low from the 6x multiplier while idle. using stock hsf and 1.39v 3ghz coretemp/hwmonitor(these programs have to be wrong) say 16c core 1 15c core 2. ambient 20c. load usually is around 51c. it's freaking freezing in my room.

Further, 34C is 3C lower than body temp.

The concave issue worries me a bit as it seems to really cause problems with stability.
