I recently build a new system and it just won't overclock.

E2180 (10x200fsb) = 2.0ghz

Gigabyte EP43-DS3L (latest bios) - this motherboard have so many advanced little features/adjustments that I don't know what to do with. Could it be the reason why i couldn't get it to overclock?
Geforece 9800gt
4 gig ram (5-4-4-15)
---------------------------------------

For some reason it will not post if i try to overclock it
I set the fsb to 333 x 10
capped pci-e speed to 100mhz max
cpu core voltage to 1.4v.

I tried everything and it still wouldn't overclock. the most i ever got it to work is 2.2 ghz lol.

I also have a similar system and it overclock like no tomorrow.
e2160 (9x200) @ 333x9 = 3.0ghz on stock cooler & it's rock solid.
gigabyte ep35-DS3L
pci-e capped @ 100mhz
core voltage 1.4v

(i used the same ram & video card)

UPDATE 1: The computer will freeze & crash at random. I noticed that when i'm surfing the internet.

Have you bumped up the nb vcore a touch....maybe .05v?

Also look to see if you have a SATA lock

Also do you have a VTT voltage adjustment? May want to bump that up to 1.25v-1.3v

3.33ghz is about the threshold of the 2xxx cores. I also have a 2180, a good clock to start with is 10 x 266, usually easily achievable with no voltage changes. If your 4GB's of Ram is 4 x 1GB, then you should try to remove 2GB and retest the OC.

I am now thinking something is wrong/damaged.

Even at stock settings, the computer will boot into windows and freeze/crash.

I've reformatted and reinstall windows several times and still have the same problem.

I know it's not the RAM (2gbx2 fatal1ty)/Video card (xfx 9800gt) because they both came out of my other system which I overclocked to 3.0ghz (e2160 333x9)

could it be the cpu that's damaged? I have one hell of a time installing the stock cooler on the motherboard too.

It (cpu) idles @ 38-39 degrees Celcius while showing case temperature is like 31-32 at stock setting (200fsb x 10). It boot into windows and freeze/crash at random (within 5 minutes)

I would set BIOS back to optimal defaults and then start disconnecting hardware; swap ram sticks (your ram might not be ideal for the board in the first place), video, etc until you can get into windows normally. Try to isolate the issue. It's possible the cpu is damaged from the overclock but often damage will come from long term high voltage. After swapping the easy hardware you could try to use your 2160. The stock cooler is often a bitch to install, be careful and dont tweak the board, I find it easiest to fasten one end and then the opposite edge next.

I agree with BOB....lets back up and isolate this...

It could very well be the motherboard....bad ram module etc....pci-express slot is bad...

Have you made sure that any and all plugs on the motherboard has plugs from the power supply plugged into them?

What type of crashes? Reboots? BSOD? or hard freezes?

Run Memtest86 on your RAM and see what voltage it's running at; default is 1.8 but there's RAM that requires 2.1 or even 2.2 and the board may not be giving it that.

Sorry I was at work and didn't get to reply on time. The computer just freezes and I couldn't even ctrl-alt-del. I'm forced to hit the reset button or turn the power supply off. I'm in the process of isolating the problem right now.

As of right now, i took out the 2 sticks of Fatal1ty ram and put in only 2 gb of ram that i bought brand new.

I'm going to use the computer for a while and see if it still freezes.

Ok, after doing some research I've found out that it's the motherboard that's bad.

I'm going to RMA it to newegg. Apparently i'm not the only one with the problem of receiving bad/DOA/defective motherboard.
