building a new rig.. have almost everything now.. need cpu and ram..to which i am undecided on.. i know im going with at least the e2180.. but now i can get the e2200 for a whopping 10$ more.. i know it uses a 11x mult is it worth the 10$ to go 2200 over the 2180?? or will the pretty much oc to the same limits? any benefit to the 2200??

im not really looking at anything else other than these unless they are at the 100$ price point.. so please keep this between these unless there is some crazy deal i dont know about. thanks in advance

also please some suggestions for ram.. i can grab ocz gold ddr2-800 for 21$ for 2gb or should i spend more like 35-40 on something like ballistix or xms2 or similar?? with not really being able to hit 400fsb on the ram does it really make any difference??

edit i can get a e4500 oem chip which claims m0 stepping for 118$ worth the difference from 84$ for the e2180?? thanks again

honestly, as much I am stingy with money, I'd save $10 and get the e2180. Cheap ram such as:A-DATA or $45 G.Skill would suffice. I'm a fan of the Ballistix though, and for its price, it's pretty damn good. About your last question; I haven't heard of any real big difference between the two Allendales. I think it was around a 10% performance margin, but hardly noticable. Therefor, go with the e2180

Take the $10 you save on the e2180 and spend it getting some slightly better quality RAM.

Kingston N5 2x1GB $50
mushkin 2x1GB $55

Both of these are high quality RAM that will easily clock well above their rated DDR2-800 speed with a bump to 1.9-2.0 volts.

This is not needed for overclocking the e21x0 series that you are buying but if you get a good quality motherboard as well (IP35-E or GA-P35-DS3L for $100 for example) you will be able to drop in a Penryn dual/quad core mid/late next year for a serious performance upgrade and have fast enough memory to OC properly.

how about this stuff:

http://www.clubit.com/product_...=A4308035&CMP=BAC-IOTW

or the xms2 at newegg is 38$ after rebates..

or newegg has this for 11$ after rebates in which i would get 2 sets for 2gb total??:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820146566 so i would use four of those..

and i am so torn between the p35 mobo and the ip35.. i dont have any psu's with the 8 pin power plug for the abit.. what can i do with that?

they are both around the same price is there any real difference?? it seems the abit gets a bit better oc than the gigabyte does but they both oc very well.. i have heard the gigabyte northbridge tends to run much hotter than the abit does?? any thoughts..

the main reason i am torn between the e2180 and the e2200 is that all the places i se the e2200 they seem to be able to get 3.4-3.6 stable out of it where the e2180 seems to run around 3.1-3.3 stable for the majority of people.. ?? as i said its only 10$.. my fear was the same as when i bought my p4 northy 3.2 i should have simply got a 2.6c instead since i could never get past 3.6 stable with the 3.2c.. and i had another rig with the 2.6c that did 3.4 all day long both on water.. i was unsure whether the higher initial clock would be a limiting factor the same as the 3.2c was..

sorry to ask something else but how are the cooler master psu's is the xtreme series one 650watts worth 34$? i know they are the best but it seems like it should do the job or are they junk? i am also looking at a 500w thermaltake for the same price.

thanks again and love the forum been reading all kinds of stuff here.. hope to get this all ordered by tomm since i just sold me previous setup with the 3.2c in it..

Even if you could squeeze 3.6GHz (purely luck with moderate voltage), the extra 200MHz is simply noise. No need to push these chips much higher than 3.0GHz.

in that case which mobo is the better of the two.. and will i have a issue with the 8 pin power connector on the abit...???

and what about the ram modules i linked to would any of those be good with this combo.. ive heard mixed about the ocz gold stuff?? but for 21$ for 2gb that may be hard to beat or does it not oc much at all if i want to switch later?

IP35-E is still a very good board at $90. It would be my 1st choice since it is one of the cheapest overclocking board.

Go to hot deals forum to get the HP/Crucial 1.8V DDR2 667 RAM...$8 AR, limit up to five sticks. The HP rebate is very reliable. DO NOT touch OCZ RAM.

I have nothing aginst ocz so if they have the best GB/$ ratio then jump on it. If you want to see how far you can OC some ram, google it and see other peoples results. I have 2x2GB G.Skill 800 and 2x2GB G.Skill 1000. The 800 can hit 1050, and the 1000 can hit 1100. As long as you get branded memory I think you'd be fine. If you have Ballistix tracer or mushkin value, both running at 843MHz, you won't be able to tell the difference.
I'd pay $10 extra for the higher multiplyer.
