I'm going cheap. Abit IP35-E MOBO, 4 GB HP ram, 6200LE graphics card($7 AR. Will upgrade to an 8600 some day. Not a gamer.)
But what is the difference between these two e2160 processors at clubit?
One says core stepping L2, the other M0.
Or is there a better cpu for ~$75? I've given up on buying an e8400. I want retail because I don't have a third party heatsink/fan.

Thanks

You can get a faster processor + M0 stepping here for less money.

He said he wanted the retail package since he needs a heat sink anyway. You also have to factor in the shipping charges from Tiger. ClubIT is free shipping.

To the OP, since they are the same price, go with the M0 stepping. It does run cooler and you should be able to get a very decent overclock on the stock cooler with minimal effort.

Tigerdirect does give it to you in the backend w/ their shipping charges.

Just started clocking an MO from ClubIT today :).

I looked everywhere, and 72.50 was the cheapest shipped, retail I could find. Plus MO is the better of the two.

I will warn you, mine came with the same retail HSF as a low-line Celeron Conroe-L chip. My older e2140 came with the taller full HSF. I'm using an OEM q6600 HSF anyhow :).

I think I will buy the ClubIT M0 one. I've never overclocked, but if a FAR heatsink comes up for sale, then maybe I will try it.
Thanks guys.

If you're going to go any overclocking, get the cheaper OEM chip and buy a top of the line cooler. Heat limitations stink. I even had to lap my Tuniq, one of the best heatsinks on the market to get temps under control.
