e2160 overclocking help needed!!!!!

I just o/c my E2160 to 2.4ghz (9 x 266) on a Gigabyte G31M matx mobo with 2-1gb A-data DDR2 and a Seagate 7200rpm 320gb.

I left all the settings are default or auto and just changed the FSB from 200 to 266
 
Yes. I am using the stock cooler. Alright. I will now try putting the fan at max in the bios and see how that goes. I need suggestions for reasonably priced aftermarket coolers please. REASONABLY PRICED!!!! I have to build about 10 gaming systems for a gaming center I am trying to open up and this is my pilot system.


By the way, please let me know if any if the listed components can be exchanged with better alternatives for the price.
 
I now think I may have a problem or two. I downclocked my processor as suggested back to the stock 1.8Ghz (200x9) and to my horror, the idle temperature is 43 degrees centigrade. I'm not sure why it is still this high. I am thinking of changing the fan or trying third party fans. Price-conscious suggestions will be appreciated.
 
Well, this isn't my field when it comes to the best bang for buck of HSF's but I do know that the Tuniq works very well. I know this because I own one. Also I have read that the true works very well. IMO, if your going to overclock, I would not get a budget PSU and HSF.
 
You know, I wouldn't worry too much about your temps. These processors are only $50-60. I run my Vcore at 1.5025 (1.48 in CPU-z), but when multiplier is downclocked it's at 1.4v. The max for these per the Intel spec sheet is 1.5v. Max temp per spec 73.2C.

Mine gets to 74C, but only in load, idles ~34C.

If yours runs at 57C idle all the time that is a bit hot...you could look into another cooler. Spend $40 on a cooler and you can use it again when you upgrade to a penryn quad core when they go end of life; plus you can overclock like crazy like I do mine.

Are you planning on getting E2160 for all your systems? And if so, are you plannaing on overclocking all? That being said, keep the stock fans, run to 2.4 ~ 2.5 range. And what a task BTW. If not, stick with the default levels, stock coolers and get some extra memory and good Vid cards.
 
Yes. I was planning on using the e2160 for all the systems. Although this current situation is causing me to rethink some of that.
 
You can get the arctic cooling freezer 7 from ewiz for a relatively good price. They dont compound shipping charges like newegg does... youd save a fortune ordering 10.
 
Right now I have mine running on the Abit IP35-E and have mine running at 3.02GHz. Only thing I did was up the FSB to 335 and bumped the ram down a little and prime 95 ran all night. Debating to go higher or not.
 
But what are your temperatures? and are you using the stock cooling? Just checked and my PC only has 1 fan, which is the cpu fan. Of course, the Psu has one and the vga card has one. What if I added extra fans?
 
Good airflow is what you need. Cool air in...........warm air out. If fans are what you need to add to help in the temps, add them as your only fans are for the direct hardware cooling. Get some airflow in your case.
 
Some Good News!!!

Took the pc to the assembly shop to get extra fans added. Told the Dude to give me the best cpu cooler he had. Well, he had no third party fans. The best he had was a pentium 4 cpu fan. So, I said what the heck. Maybe a $9 fan will do the trick. Had it popped in. Core temp idle temperature was 24 degrees centigrade. INCREDIBLE!!!!

That essentially means the fan that came with the cpu was just a rotating machine with zero functionality. With the old fan, idle temp at core speed (1.8Ghz) was 43 degrees centigrade and with prime 95 testing was in excess of 85 degrees.

With this new fan, idle is 24 degrees centigrade and load went as high as high as 43 degrees centigrade.


With this settled, I guess I can go back to restarting my overclocking. Hopefully, the sky will be the limit!!!!




By the way, anyone got any suggestions for games that would rock any lan party
Counter Strike seems to top that, but other suggestions would be appreciated.
 
I don't think the fans in general are bad. I think this fan in particular was defective. Spinning in circles, blowing no air fast.
 
I ordered a GA-P35-DS3L for this chip. I have it on an Intel D975XBX2 Mobo now and I cant get anywhere near 3.0. So, not to say this board sucks, but not great for the overclocking experience. Intel boards are for the most stable in mind. With that said, when it arrives, let the fun begin. 🙂
