UPDATE: Thanks everyone it works!

I upped the PCI-e to 100mhz & CPU voltage to 1.4v and it worked!

Before I upgrade my graphic card from a ATI X1950XT to the Geforce 9800gt, I can overclock my E2160 processor to 3.0ghz and it's rock solid stable.

After I upgrade my graphic card, it wouldn't even post anything higher than 2.2ghz :(

What am I doing wrong? I even put in a higher wattage power supply to see if that's what it needed but it still doesn't help.

My system:

E2160 @ 2.2ghz :(
Gigabyte DS3L
4gb Ram
XFX GeForce 9800 GT 512MB.

With the ATI X1950XT, All I have to do is set it to 333mhz FSB and it's rock solid all month long.

Have you read the overclocking thread? You may need to do more than just change the FSB.

The motherboard automatically adjust the voltage & settings. The fact is that all I did was upgrade the video card and now I can't overclock. I put in a higher wattage PSU and it still doesn't work :(

Set the PCIe slot speed manually (100MHz if I remember right) instead of leaving on auto? May not be locked, if not it's probably scaling up with increased fsb (don't know why 9800GT would behave different from x1950xt but anyway).

That's really the only thought I have on the issue. Good luck!

have similiar rig to you - i have a 4850 and am still running the 2160@3GHz. i had to move my cpu V to 1.4 in bios on a rev 2 board from the get go and i think i set the pci-e slot to 100MHz, other than that just set it to 333 fsb and it has been stable since i think feb when i built this rig.

and by stable i mean memtest for 12+ hrs and also dual prime95 for 12+hrs

1. What PSU did you have before and what did you upgrade to??
2. What type and brand of RAM are you using?

I'd clear the CMOS (pull the battery, press the power button to discharge the caps, and wait 3 mins before reinserting), then redo everything in bios again manually -- do not use any of Gigabyte's window's based tools. Set mem ratio to 2 (which is 1:1 on gigabyte boards), set RAM timings manually to 5-5-5-15, and set PCIe frequency to 100mhz as already mentioned.

Run memtest86 overnight at stock, then Orthos for at least 3 hrs. Redo for OCs at 2.5, 2.7, and 3.0. See what happens. Use Coretemp 99.3 to monitor temps.

Everything is the same except for the graphic card. But I was able to get 3.0ghz by setting the fsb to 333 in the bios with the ati x1950xt. With the 9800gt, it just reboot the system and defaulted the fsb to stock if I go any higher than 250mhz (2.25ghz overclock).

I just googles "9800gt and e2160" and apparently someone else have the exact same problem as me after he upgraded his video card. He too got the gigabyte ds3l mobo. And the e2160.

I will try to set the ram timings and CPU wattage manually when I get home. I have the latest mobo bios too just in case you're wondering.

Weird.

Give the CPU more voltage? Set it to 1.4v and see how that does.

I had to do this very thing to my Q6600. I had an ATi 3450 with it and put a HD2900 Pro in its place and then it become unstable until I rechecked my system stability. I had to bump the voltage to my Cpu a notch to gain it back......

Try increasing the ram voltage by .1 or .2 and see if that works.
I have one overclocked on that same board at 1.275 and +.2v ram.

Grats. Now you need to find out which of those it was. Turn the CPU voltage back to Auto and see if your OC holds. If it doesn't, start incrementing the voltage in 0.025v increments (or whatever increment is closest to that.
