Basically, i recently noticed that I had been patently stupid in my multiplications to work out my actual speed after OC'ing my e2160 - it came out at roughly 2.9 ghz rather than the 3 i had meant to have (yes, 333 is not a hard number to remember, but i was clearly stupid :p). So, i restart, go into the bios, change the FSB to 333, leaving my memory divider at 1:1, and my voltage at 1.375 (i think, cant remember actual figure....), thinking it would probably be stable, so, I boot into windows, turn on prime 95 and..... BSOD, so, I think, well, try more voltage (under load the temps were still fine around 45 degrees), and so i put it up another notch (still can't remember the figure, probably to 1.400), and boot, and... BSOD, so, then, I start wondering... why? my memory is rated at ddr2 800, and its still only going up to around 670 odd, my motherboard is an MSI p35 neo-2, so I don't think i've pushed the FSB too high.... did i just get an unlucky chip? none of my temps are high (according to speedfan, and coretemp), my RAM isn't under great strain, and my motherboard shouldn't be either... so wtf? (apologies if I said, implied or did anything disgustingly stupid, I have a habit of missing things that are ridiculously obvious)

need to add more vcore, try 1.45v, also try to lower your memory timing to 5-5-5-15.

you might need to add a little bit to nb/mch or maybe cpu vtt. the core2 overclocking guide at the top of this forum is exceptional and should help you get where you want to go.

Then again, if you have 2.9GHz without any voltage boost you might just stay there instead of stressing over 100MHz (especially if it's going to require lots of additional voltage and heat to get to 3GHz).

Performance-wise is there a difference between 2.9 and 3.0 unless the app is very cpu heavy?

Is there a difference? Yes...
Is there a NOTICABLE difference? No

it was more just to see if i COULD do it.... and actually, i just noticed that my core voltage in CPU-z doesn't seem to match what i set in the bios....
