e2140 upgrade

currently running the e2140 @ 3.0Ghz no problems on a abit IP35-E

Want to to upgrade; is it worth it to go to a e8400 or maybe a q6600 ?
I know they level 2 Cache will be better, but will that translate to better performance for the $$

dont want to spend the dough to go to i5/i7?

Dual core to dual core upgrade is not worth it, especially when your E2140 is OC'd. If you use a lot of multi-threaded applications or multi-task a lot, upgrade to a Q8000 series or Q9000 series. Otherwise wait for a while then do a platform upgrade to i5/i7.

I would just wait for an i5/i7 upgrade.

Upgrading dual core to a faster dual core doesn't sound worthwhile to me, and unless you benefit from quad core, a Q6600 doesn't sound worthwhile either.

You could save some $$ and reuse your hardware by picking up a Q8xxx/Q9xxx quad. The best Q8xxx for the money at the moment is the Q8400 (2.66ghz, 4MB L2 $169.99). It's every bit as fast as a Q9400 and cheaper.

Don't listen to people tell you to not upgrade on a dying platform. My S939 X2 was the best purchase i ever made right when the platform officially died. I'd do the same if I had a S775 low-end dual core.

If you were buying a new system and went s775 then it would be a different story. Reuse your motherboard and ram.

If you decide to upgrade to quad core please take into account that your motherboard do not support Q8xxx processors. The only options you have are Q9300, Q9450 or Q9550 (but only older version - SLAWQ).
