A little help on this.

I bought two routers, a linksys E3000 and E2000.

I currently have the E3000 hooked up and broadcasting from a base IP of 192.168.2.1 to avoid any conflict with the Verizon base router.

I have tried both Linksys and dd-wrt to get the E2000 to perform like a WAP/switch on the far end on the N/5GHz band to no luck.

Does anybody have any clue on this? After going over to dslreports, I am batting 0.

If using dd-wrt, simply disable dhcp server and set the wan to disabled. That's it.

Jack, what do you mean by "do not change base Verizon"?

The verizon is only acting as a root router at this point (Sorry for my lack of accurate terms).

The wire comes in from the box outside, hooks into the Verixon router, then hooks through a port to the E3000. The E3000 is set up on the 192.168.2.### (I believe I gave it the base addy). My HTPC and laptop have no problem finding the standard G and N signals (although I think that the laptop is only 2.4 capable).

The E3000 can transmit G and both N's simultaneously, but the E2000 only does one N, so I want to set it up for the 5GHz band and use it as an AP and (splitter? Router?) on the HTPC station (so I can hook up the TV box, 360, HTPC).

Are you saying I should take the E3000 to 192.168.1.50 (or whatever) and go from there?

(Note, the first few "100's" are pre-addressed to the set top boxes via Verizon).

AP is a router - TAPE the WAN PORT up so nobody plugs into it- disable dhcp - plug into LAN port - done.

or get a buffalo wzr router. it has AUTO - just plug it in and if it sees a dhcp server it turns itself into a AP automatically - seriously plug n play. took me about 1 minute to setup the SSID/password after plugging it in.

the other methods work just make sure you follow what everyone is saying.

Thanks guys. I have some time this weekend/next week to give it a go. Hopefully I will be able to hook this up to everything w/o having to buy ANOTHER piece of equipment and then use the E2000 as a router/switch. That is a lot of juice being used for nothing.... (many plugs....)
